Oregon ash is particularly suited to heavy soils and poorly drained areas, which are often too wet for any other tree, including cottonwood. It will also grow on sandy, rocky, and gravelly soils in riparian areas or areas with seasonal flooding. Shade tolerant and moderately fast-growing.
