Does well in drier sites. Withstands hot, dry sites well, and adapts to a variety of soil conditions, but must have good drainage and full sunlight. Sold as 2.5-0, 1-1 bare root (bundle of 200). Height: Up to 100′   - [Western Larch - Bundle of 25](https://ekcd.org/product/western-larch-bundle/): Larix occidentalis Reaches maximum height at 20 years, but can live for 850 years. Low drought tolerance. Like all larches, it loses its needles in the autumn. Provides exceptionally high-quality construction materials, used for poles and wherever strong supports are needed. Also called Tamarak, it makes good firewood. Sold as: 1P, 12″ bare root (bundle of 25). Height: Up to 200′ - [Douglas Fir - Bundle of 200](https://ekcd.org/product/douglas-fir-bundle/): Pseudotsuga menziesii Long-lived. Requires more water than Ponderosa Pine, but is often found in the same areas. The thick bark makes them somewhat fire-resistant. Growth is generally slow without supplemental watering. Sold as 3-0, 1-1 (1 year in a bed, and 1 year outside) bare root (bundle of 200). Height: Up to 200′ - [Red Osier Dogwood - Bundle of 25](https://ekcd.org/product/red-osier-dogwood-bundle/): Cornus sericea Prefers moist, rich soils in either sun or shade. “Red osier” refers to the bright red stems. It bears clusters of small, white flowers in spring, followed by whitish berries. Brilliant red fall foliage. Good for bank stabilization. Sold as 1-0, 12″+ bare root (bundle of 25). Height: 3-18′ - [Idaho Hybrid Poplar - Bundle of 20](https://ekcd.org/product/idaho-hybrid-poplar-bundle/): Populus sp. Grows as much as 6’-10’ per year. Often used for windbreaks or shelter belts, it will establish itself quickly under favorable conditions. Sold as 10 cubic inch plugs (bundle of 20). Height: Up to 90′ - [Quaking Aspen - Bundle of 10](https://ekcd.org/product/quaking-aspen-bundle/): Populus tremuloides Fast growing. Leaves are round and “quake” or flutter in even a slight breeze and turn a splendid golden color in fall. Trunk and limbs are smooth and white or light grey. Not particular about soil, as long as it’s moist. Sold as 2-0, 18″+ bare root (bundle of 10). Height: Up to 40′   - [Mock Orange - Bundle of 10](https://ekcd.org/product/mock-orange-bundle/): Philadelphus lewisii Full sun to part shade. Very drought tolerant. Prefers open woods and stream sides, but often grows on rocky hillsides and in cracks in basalt fields. Fragrant white flowers in early summer. Useful for streambank stabilization, riparian restoration, and erosion control on dry slopes. Sold as 2-0, 12″+ bare root (bundle of 10). Height: Up to 8′ - [Wood's Rose - Bundle of 25](https://ekcd.org/product/woods-rose-bundle/): Rosa woodsii Grows in a wide range of soil types and textures. Spreads by rhizomes, producing dense thickets. 2” pink flowers are followed by rose hips that provide Vitamin C and can be dried and used in teas, jellies, fruitcakes, and puddings. Sold as 1-0, 12″+ bare root (bundle of 25). Height: Up to 6′ - [Blue Elderberry - Bundle of 25](https://ekcd.org/product/blue-elderberry-bundle/): Sambucus caerulea For sun or part shade. A tall shrub for dry to moderately moist areas. Masses of small berries are produced from August to September which hang on after leaf drop in fall. The berries are excellent food for birds and can be used to make jams, jellies, and wine. Sold as 1-0 bare root, 12″+ (bundle of 25). Height: 4-20′ - [Chokecherry - Bundle of 25](https://ekcd.org/product/chokecherry-bundle/): Prunus virginiana Large shrub or small tree. Can take partial shade. White flowers clustered in hanging spikes that later produce dark, purple fruits. Fruits are a wildlife favorite and also make good jellies and pies. Good source of food for many songbirds in the fall. Good for windbreak or screen. Sold as 1-0, 12″+ bare root. Height: Up to 25′ - [Cascara - Bundle of 25](https://ekcd.org/product/cascara-bundle/): Rhamus purshiana A deciduous tall shrub or small tree. Small greenish-yellow flowers are followed by blue to purplish-black berries. It has been noted that the Cascara is “like an Alder and a Birch with a Cherry thrown in”. An important food and cover source for mule deer, elk, and many birds and small mammals, it is generally found in Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Hemlock and Maple in moist sites. Prefers shade. Sold as 1-0, 12″+ bare root (bundle of 25). Height: 15′ – 30′ - [Serviceberry - Bundle of 20](https://ekcd.org/product/serviceberry-bundle/): Amelanchier alnifolia Adaptable to a wide range of soils. Cold-hardy and also somewhat drought tolerant. Spectacular show of white flowers in early spring. Berries can be eaten raw, cooked, dried, preserved, or used for wine. Seedlings require sweating. Sold as 10 cubic inch plugs (bundle of 20). Height: 6-15′. - [Prairie Smoke - Bundle of 20](https://ekcd.org/product/prairie-smoke-bundle/): Geum triflorum For sunny, dry sites but it will tolerate partial shade. Pink to purple flowers followed by pink seed heads. Fern-like evergreen foliage. Sold as 10 cubic inch plugs (bundle of 20). Height: Up to 18″. - [Sticky Geranium - Bundle of 20](https://ekcd.org/product/geranium-bundle/): Geranium viscossisimum For full sun or part shade. Spreads with more shade and water. Attractive ornamental has low water requirements. Blooms from May through August, and has red fall foliage. Sold as 10 cubic inch plugs (bundle of 20). Height: 1-3′. - [Firecracker Penstemon - Bundle of 20](https://ekcd.org/product/penstemon-bundle/): Penstemon eatonii An outstanding perennial for dry, sunny areas. Will also tolerate some shade. Green leathery leaves form a mound approximately 15″ across, and 2-3′ tall with beautiful red or coral tube-shaped blooms. Sold as 10 cubic inch plugs (bundle of 20). - [Blue Flax - Bundle of 20](https://ekcd.org/product/flax-bundle/): Linum lewisii Also commonly known as Blue Flax. Mostly unbranched leafy stems produce delicate blue flowers on slender stalks near the top. Found in open well drained prairies and meadows. Sold as 10 cubic inch plugs (bundle of 20). Height: 18-30″. - [Purple Coneflower - Bundle of 20](https://ekcd.org/product/purple-coneflower-bundle/): Echinacea purpurea Full sun. Purple flowers May through August. Sold as 10 cubic inch plugs (bundle of 20). Height: 2-3′. - [James' Buckwheat](https://ekcd.org/product/james-buckwheat/): Eriogonum jamesii Plants with red foliage are nature’s gift to landscape designers, and the James’ Buckwheat is just that with it’s fuzzy reddish-gray foliage. Combined with a loose cushion-type habit and cream flowers that turn to a deep rust color as the flowers age, this plant a becomes a striking addition to any landscape. Prefers coarse to medium clay soils, but will grow in slightly acidic, well-drained soils. Sold as 3.5″ pot.
